Are You More Suited To Be An Ops Guy, A Strategy Guy, Or A Visionary?

The above question can be answered by introspecting a little and identifying your biggest strength out of the 3:

  1. Discipline
  2. Delaying Gratification
  3. Passion

If you count Discipline as a much bigger strength over the other 2, then you are more suitable to be an Operations guy.

If you count Delaying Gratification as a much bigger strength over the other 2, then you are more suitable to be a Strategy guy. Now, you can roughly assess your ability to delay gratification by answering this one-question diagnostic or this thought-experiment diagnostic. Note than both these ‘indirect’ diagnostics are valid because they are psychologically similar to the famous Marshmallow test (i.e. the reward is higher if you delay your gratification)!

If you count Passion (towards business ideas) as a much bigger strength over the other 2, then you are more suitable to be an innovative Visionary.

In your moment of the most intense natural pleasure known to mankind, are you able to hold on longer?
You are waiting for your cab to take you to your office. It will take you 10 min to reach your office if you go on foot. But, if you go by a cab, it will take you only 2 min. You check with the cab guy and the drive tells that the cab will reach you in 5 min. You are more suitable to be a Strategy guy if you prefer patiently waiting for the cab for 5 min. But, you are unlikely to be a Strategy guy if you can’t wait and simply start walking towards your office close-by.
